Sexual Health Issues

Sexual Health is another extremely sensitive area of personal wellbeing. Our doctors will address these issues with empathy and total discretion. Our aim is to create a relationship of trust and respect between doctor and patient in order to achieve the best possible treatment and/or advice.

From our experience working in student health for the past decade we are conscious that the risk of sexually transmitted infections is particularly high amongst third level students and we encourage all students who feel that they may be at risk to have screening done at least once a year and ideally before (or failing that immediately after) entering a new relationship.

We advocate the use of condoms for prevention of sexually transmitted infections even where other effective contraception is in use unless you are in a long-term monogamous relationship.

We provide a simple self administered screening test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea for those patients who have no symptoms but may be concerned that they have had a risk exposure

For patients who have symptoms or who have a higher risk we can provide a full range of tests for sexually transmitted infections including Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Trichomonas, Non specific urethritis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Syphilis and HIV.
