SURGERY HOURS
MONDAY TO FRIDAY 9am to 1pm 2pm to 5pm
Consultations after 5pm are intended to facilitate working patients and urgent problems only.

Appointments
All consultations are by appointment wherever possible. We do this in order to provide all patients with adequate time in each consultation for their needs. We believe that this reduces waiting times and improves the care that you receive.
Appointments can be made from 9am each weekday by phoning 4319087 or by calling in to the surgery.
Urgent cases will be seen as soon as possible.
If you cannot keep an appointment, please advise us as early as possible as this appointment can be given to another patient.
Please advise the receptionist if you require extra appointment time for a special procedure or where more than one patient is required to be seen.

To help our patients to avoid having to come to the surgery to collect prescriptions in March 2020 we introduced electronic prescriptions. We can now send a secure encrypted copy of your prescription directly to your pharmacy.
We require a minimum of 48 hours notice for all repeat prescriptions to allow us to check all items.

Ideally we wish to see the patient when doing our 6 or 12 month repeat prescriptions but we are doing some 6 month patient reviews and issuing repeat prescriptions without seeing the patient where the patients condition is stable.

Blood Tests
Phlebotomy (Blood Tests) is offered by appointment ideally. Your Doctor will order whatever blood test you need, please book your appointment at reception.
A Courier Service brings blood,and other samples, such as urine and swabs to the Cork University Hospital Labs at 12 MIDDAY daily, because of this all blood tests are carried out in the mornings.

Test Results
It is the patients responsibility to contact the surgery for their test results - usually 2 weeks after tests taken.
The doctor reviews all results when received from the labs and where all are normal or very stable and need no further action the doctor will generally note this in your file and the secretary may tell you this when you phone for your results.
If the secretary is not certain regarding the results she will get the nurse or doctor to speak to you.
We can email you regarding your results if you provide your email address to reception however this will not happen automatically so it is still your responsibility to contact us for results.
We can facilitate some tests for private consultants you may be attending but there is a charge for this service.

Patient Contact Details
It is the patients responsibility to inform the practice secretary of any changes in contact details (mobile phone, address etc). If you do not ensure that your details are updated then we may be unable to contact you for lab or other results and hospital appointments etc may not reach you. We would also ask that you provide the secretary with at least one other contact name and telephone number whom we may contact in the event of an emergency.
New patients: We try to facilitate new patients from within our local area who need a GP

We much prefer patients to attend the surgery as this allows us the time and facilities to provide a much more complete assessment. We will see urgent cases immediately in the surgery even if they have no appointment.
We also understand how worrying a sick child can be and if you are concerned about your child you can come to the surgery at any time and he/she will be seen promptly.
If you do require a home visit for a house bound elderly patient we ask that you request the call before lunch as most calls are ideally done during the doctors lunch-break.

Patient Feedback
We welcome your feedback both positive and negative on any aspect of the services we provide. There is a Suggestions Box in the Waiting Room if you wish to do this anonymously. We also welcome feedback directly to any staff member.
Computerisation
We are a fully computerised / paperless practice . We believe that the benefits are reflected in the quality of care (particularly care of chronic diseases like diabetes, asthma, heart disease etc). Computer records also improve referral letters, reduce duplication of tests and referrals and increase prescription accuracy. These records also allow us to do regular audits of patient management to ensure that we are providing the best possible care in accordance with international best practice.
GP Training
We are affiliated to both the Faculty of Medicine in UCC and to the Postgraduate Training Scheme in General Practice UCC. As such we have both undergraduate and postgraduate doctors in the practice occasionally for teaching purposes. We believe that this is beneficial for the patients and doctors involved

-Flu Surveillance—We are one of 60 practices nationwide who report flu cases and send swabs to identify flu strains for national vaccination and outbreak planning.
-Irish College of General Practitioners and University College Cork projects and the CTNI (Primary Care Trials Network Ireland)
You may occasionally be asked to participate in these important projects - You are free not to participate and this will in no way impact on your medical care.
