As a post-graduate teaching practice for UCC there is GP Registrar in the practice three and a half days a week. This doctor has a minimum of 3 years postgraduate hospital experience but many will have up to 10 years experience working as a doctor.
We have a good working relationship with other members of our Primary Care Team in Togher / Ballyphehane where we work with the Public Health Nurses, Social Workers, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language therapists, Dietician, Area Medical Officer, community mental health teams etc.

After working for a year in Cork he entered the Cork Postgraduate Training Program in general practice from which he qualified as a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners in 1991. He spent 3 years working as a rural physician in Newfoundland, Canada with full responsibility for both general practice and all patients in the local community hospital. Returning to Ireland in 1995 he took up a GP post in Milltown Co Kerry. He moved to Friars Walk in 2005. He has been involved in medical education since 1996 and regularly works in UCC and the Irish College of General Practitioners. His special areas of interest are Preventive Medicine, Mens Health, Diabetes, Sports Medicine and Chronic Disease Management. |
Dr Michael Madden
Michael joined the practice in July 2020. Michael is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and spent 2 years working in Australia before returning to Ireland where he gained further experience in obstetrics and gynaecology before entering the Postgraduate Training Program in General Practice in UCC.
Nurse Mairead O'Shea
Mairead is a registered general nurse with over 19 years of diverse clinical experience. She has worked in both Ireland and abroad includuing most recently in the Bon Secours Hospital Cork for the past 10 years. Mairead has experience and interest in osteoporosis, wound management, counselling and psychotherapy as well as general nursing skills.
Geraldine Archer Practice Secretary
Geraldine has worked in this practice for over 20 years and has an in depth knowledge of almost all concerns patients might present with. She has a long relationship with the patients and always provides a warm welcome to the practice. As the first point of contact in the practice the way in which she combines care for the patients while ensuring that their concerns are dealt with makes it much easier for patients contacting the practice.
