Family Planning
Family Planning is a very personal and important issue. We therefore strive to give appropriate advice on types and suitability of various contraceptive methods with sensitivity and tact. These methods include a full range of contraceptive advice including pill checks, contraceptive patch, contraceptive vaginal ring, Mirena/Jaydess and Implanon.
There are many reasons why certain contraceptives should not be used by women with medical conditions (including clotting disorders, personal or family history of breast cancer, certain types of migraine etc). We will review all of these issues with you before initiating contraception.
There are also benefits from some contraceptives in terms of period control, acne management etc which may make certain contraceptives more suitable for individuals.
Dr Sara O'Shaughnessy is and Irish College, Contraception Tutor and can provide the full range of contraceptive options individualised to each patient.
Good summaries of your contraceptive options are available on Think Contraception
